  • Ariel Bikes and its Famous Creations
    The British Ariel Square Four (also referred as Squariel) was a design of Edward Turner. Being unemployed at the time, Turner took his drawings of an innovative engine design from one bike manufacturer to the other. It was persistently ignored. Of the giants, BSA rejected the idea, but it was approved by Ariel bikes. This was before the birth of the Ariel Square Four. Turner’s engine was unconventional for its time; it was essentially two OHC twins lying parallel to each other; a flywheel (geared) joined them together.  Debuting at the Motorcycle Show of Olympia in 1930, the first model was featured in a chain-driven overhead cam-shaft form.
